VANDENBERG FALCONS Soar to Success!

Welcome to Vandenberg School!!! I am so happy to have your child in my class this year. Together, we will make your child’s year fun, exciting, challenging and most of all enjoyable!

This is a list of items that your child should have for school:

§     5 glue sticks

§        One 8 ½ inch by 11 inch notebook.

§        Two boxes of Kleenex

§        2 containers of Clorox or Lysol Disinfecting Wipes and One box of unscented baby wipes

(The above items will be shared and used through out the school year)

§        Backpack or book bag with your child’s name on it, regular size - not small.

§        Gym shoes or some type of rubber sole shoes should be worn daily.

§        Optional, one small blanket or beach towel and a small travel sized pillow-these will be kept at school and sent home on Fridays to be washed.

§        If you have purchased crayons, scissors, pencils please keep them at home for Friday homework.

The school supplies each child with crayons, scissors, paste and pencils. I will also supply your child with a pocket folder that will be sent home every Friday and should be returned every Monday.

The school day begins at 8:36 am. Students line up on the blacktop area nearest the kindergarten playground doors (during bad weather they will enter the door on Sarasoda and wait in the hallway).  There is adult supervision until the entrance bell rings. Please say good-bye to your child outside. Arrival anytime after 8:42 am is considered tardy and you will need to check you child in at the front office.

At the 3:36pm dismissal, please come to the outside door on Sarasota to pick your child up.  We will only release children to their parents or caretakers, unless other arrangements are made in advance and in writing.  If you think your child can walk by himself/herself or with an older child please give your permission in writing. If your child rides the bus, please have him/her wear a tag with their name, bus number and drop-off location on it, for at least two weeks.  If for some reason in the future they are not to ride the bus home, I will need a note from you, with your signature explaining this .

Your child may also tell your today that there was another teacher in our room.  Mrs. Heidi Hiser is the full time aide in our classroom.  She is a very caring and warm person and has experience working with children. She will be in our class daily and will become an important person in your child’s educational experience. I feel very lucky to have her in the classroom.  Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself to her.

If your child will be bringing a lunch, please put their naeme on the lunch bag/box. When buying breakfast, milk or lunch you can send money in daily or make a larger deposit into their lunch account (see southredford.net. Parents tab/Payschools).  Please send money in a zip lock baggie or envelope labeled with your child’s name. It is helpful to discuss the lunch choices and have them decide on their choice (Choice 1, Choice 2, salad bar or munchable).  It is suggested at all families complete the free and reduced lunch application that is included in the information packed you received.

We are asking each family to donate a box of crackers that will be shared with the class. Example; graham crackers, Ritz crackers, Teddy

We are asking each family to donate a box of crackers that will be shared with the class. Example; graham crackers, Ritz crackers, Teddy Grahams, club crackers, animal crackers, etc.

Your child may bring in a birthday treat to share with classmates. There are currently 20 children and 2 teachers.  Please, NO CAKES or DRINKS, this is not a party only a simple treat.  Cupcakes, cookies, brownies…are okay, but fruit, vegetables, stickers or pencils are preferred.  Just let me know if you are sending a treat in so I can plan a time at the end of the school day to enjoy it.

I will be sending newsletters home to communicate with you about what is happening in class.  If you ever have any questions or concerns please write me a note, contact me at school, 313.532.0300 x1823 or by e-mail at ghenlo01@southredford.net, through the district website, www.southredford.net or the classroom website; www.freewebs.com/ghena/ .  We need to work together so your child can develop and have a terrific start in school.

                                                               Sincerely, Mrs. Ghena
